Have them try to guess what this stone is. Unless they're deep into gems themselves, they likely won't guess that this is but a humble synthetic green quartz variety called prasiolite. Natural prasiolite is a beautiful and understated green with some faint grey tones, but the synthetic material is a rich jungle green that wants to be something between an emerald and a tourmaline. And while quartz does have a low refractive index, with the right cut, the result is a truly elegant piece.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp lang=\"en\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.14in; line-height: 115%;\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: small;\"\u003eA lot of lapidaries don't really like working with quartz varieties. It's a finicky stone to cut, doesn't usually come in the more popular colors, and the return is much less than something like sapphires or spinels. But, my first stone was a citrine (golden-yellow quartz), so I've got an almost nostalgic fondness for it.
