Origins
Quartz forms in environments ranging from volcanic cavities to hydrothermal veins and metamorphic rocks. Common sources include:
- Brazil
- Madagascar
- United States
- Uruguay
Different varieties form under different geological conditions, giving rise to the incredible diversity seen in the quartz family.
Durability & Wearability
Quartz is a reliable, everyday‑friendly gemstone:
- Hardness: 7 on the Mohs scale
- Good toughness suitable for most jewelry
- Resistant to normal wear, though it can be scratched by harder materials

Synthetics
Synthetic quartz does exist, and although it is primarily produced for industrial and optical applications, we do occasionally offer synthetic varieties. Synthetic quartz can provide deeper greens and blues not found naturally. It will be clearly listed if any of our pieces offered are cut from hydrothermally grown synthetic materials.
