Cutting Fees & Policies

Evaluation of rough for cutting is based on a best estimate of the potential net value of the finished gem(s) versus the required time and materials. Some stones may be recommended to remain uncut. The method of determination is the same for our rough as well as customer-provided rough.

Cutting Fees begin at $150 for customer-provided rough, with an increased cost based on size, complexity of cut, and difficulty of the material in question. Final Cutting Fees are based on an estimate based upon our evaluation of the material and desired shape or design. The Cutting Fee quote, if accepted by both parties, is considered binding and will not be exceeded by us without prior approval.

Estimated project completion times are best guesses based on pending work and other related factors. While we will do our best to meet our estimates on completion time, we do not guarantee completion time on any stone, and accept no liability for delays, regardless of cause. Quality comes before quickness.

The natural variability of crystal structures can lead to unexpected results or consequences. We will handle the material with care, but cannot guarantee the integrity of any stone, and our liability shall be limited to the cost of our labor in the event of any unforeseen or undesirable outcomes, including but not limited to chipping, cracking, and fracturing.

We will declare the package value, and purchase insurance for return shipping according to client instructions. Our valuation of a given package shall not be interpreted as an appraisal.

Cutting Fees, shipping and handling costs, and insurance costs must be paid prior to our shipping of completed stones. We may accept payment by credit card. Most jobs will also require an advance deposit, as outlined below.

An initial nonrefundable deposit of $50 (plus the cost of the rough if sourced by us) is required to begin a project. The client’s stone is surety against the cutting fees. Completed work will be billed via last known successful contact. Fees not paid within 30 calendar days of billing shall render any client materials forfeit to us.
