Peridot - 1.2ct (7mm)
Peridot, like Zircon, is know for facet doubling, and the longer facets on this Pakistan peridot really show that blurring "double vision" effect. However, a lot of natural peridot also has inclusions, called lilypads, which are other crystals that are trapped within the stone. These also appear doubled, which gives them an appearance of floating on water, hence the name. These inclusions are much more visible in photography than to the naked eye, where the brilliance and shimmer of this August birthstone leaves you focused on the fact that it, itself, looks like the lilypad.
Pictures show both the performance of the stone and lighting that displays the inclusions best.
