A vivid blue Zircon from Cambodia. At 6mm, the round 3-fold symmetry of the cut beautifully shows the "facet doubling," or birefringence, that is associated with Zircon, Sphene, and Peridot. Zircon is also the oldest known mineral on earth, and a popular alternative December birthstone, for those who want a stone that can look as icy as the weather.
Likely heat treated, as most blue Zircon are, with resulting icy blue working with Zircon's amazingly high refractive index (one of the highest natural stones, higher than both sapphires and garnets) to create a brilliant and flashy gem.
